SME alliance scoops £4m of fabrication and manufacturing contracts with PPP

The North West Energy Coast Alliance of West Cumbria-based SMEs McMenon Engineering Services and TIS Cumbria has picked up two contracts with Programme and Project Partners (PPP).

NWECA has been awarded a £3.5m contract to provide process cabinets for the new build SIXEP Continuity Plant. Work will include the fabrication, assembly, testing and supply of wash and process cabinets at a facility that will ensure the existing Site Ion Exchange Effluent Plant can continue its vital work.

It has also been awarded a £813,939 contract for 191 fabrications for the Sellafield Product and Residue Store Retreatment Plant, which involves the manufacture of specialist trolleys, handling equipment, personnel access and machine operating and maintenance tooling.

Both of the contracts have been awarded through PPP’s Fabrication and Manufacturing goods and services agreement (GSA1). NWECA is one of the seven partners to be selected to deliver fabricated and manufactured equipment packages that fall under a framework worth up to £20m in the first three years.

And while they are working alongside bigger Tier 2 contractors on this package, they are also one of the 120 SMEs that have been through the Swimming with the Big Fish SME Matchmaker Service process (as of September 13). Not only that, but NWECA is one of the 41 SMEs to have received the highest grading possible (Gold) based on their response to a questionnaire that gathers key information on an SME’s capabilities, capacity and commitment to investing in West Cumbria and Cumbria should they secure work on a PPP framework.

So far, the Service – which is being delivered by Solomons Europe for PPP – has supported negotiations that have led to 48 Heads of Terms being agreed between SMEs and the Key Delivery Partners for several PPP work packages.

We’re proud to be playing a role in helping to achieve PPP’s shared ambition to create a clean and safe environment at the Sellafield site for future generations, improve sustainability and better outcomes for the local economy and communities.
