Team Solomons smashes step challenge to raise money for the British Heart Foundation

From lunchtime strolls, strenuous hikes and running to dog walking, cycling and even darts – the Solomons team notched up a staggering 9.15m steps during May to raise money for the British Heart Foundation.

Four teams of six stepped up to the plate with the goal of covering the distance from John O’Groats to Lands End during the month – and with a few detours to our offices located in the North East, Cumbria and central North West thrown in for good measure!

The target was well and truly smashed with the teams not only making the distance, but collectively covering 4,574 miles. You could say they made it look like a walk in the park!

To recognise the achievement, Solomons has donated £450 to the British Heart Foundation’s ‘Walk this May’ fundraiser, handing out bonus donations for those who participated in group walks and posted pictures of themselves out and about.

The ‘Red Hot Chilli Steppers’ captained by Jen Hillier, Quantity Surveyor, emerged victorious recording just over 2.5m steps. Practice Manager, Dawn Bowker won the “Hotstepper” prize, with an individual step count of 520,526, while Project Quantity Surveyor Alex Sheldon received a special commendation award for his daily posts on the company’s intranet, helping to keep motivation high!

At present a further £40 of additional donations has been made. You can also pledge your support on our dedicated Solomons Step Challenge Just Giving page

Solomons People and Performance Manager Victoria Clements, says: “We already knew that our team members are an active bunch, but it’s astonishing how many steps they’ve taken and how many miles they’ve covered in just a month. Everyone should be really proud of themselves and what they’ve achieved.

“The Solomons Step Challenge is not only about raising money for this extremely important charity. It is about having fun together and, importantly, recognising the need to strike a healthy balance between work and our physical activity. As we all know a walk, jog or run, can do wonders for our wellbeing and help keep us fighting fit. As we say at Solomons, a happy and healthy team is a high performing team!”

While team members are counting the blisters and taking a well-earned rest, the focus now turns to the next Solomons challenge. Watch this space!
